That’s a Wrap on National Burger Day 2020!

National Burger Day is the most wonderful day of the year for us here at Kepak Foodservice, it’s like Christmas and all your favourite summer BBQ days all rolled into one. And this year, it was even better!

It was May 2020 and we were debating (virtually…thank you #COVID19!) whether it would be the right fit for us, and more importantly our customers. Then we realised it.

Our customers had bravely kept their doors open during the worst of the lockdown. Every outlet pivoting and adapting unprecedented safety measures and protocols as the government issued more guidelines. Our takeaways, burger joints, and local chippies became national heroes as they faced the frontline with our healthcare workers every day. As a business, and for the end customers, we wanted to say thank you. So #VirtualNationalBurgerDay was born!

It was a flurry of activity, not only did we work on getting our customers set up for Online ordering so they could take part and register. But we also felt it was very important to consider what was happening in the country at the time. That’s why we added our charitable element, bringing on Irish Simon Communities to be our nominated corporate charity. Not only did ask people to support their local takeaways, burger joints, and chippies, but we also asked them to take a photo of their food and post it on social media with the hashtag #NationalBurgerDay. Every photo tagged, was a meal donated to the Irish Simon Communities of Ireland.

Another vital part of 2020’s Virtual National Burger Day were our other sponsors, Blenders Mayonnaises & Sauces as well as Flipdish. The day wouldn’t have been the same without their key supports!

This year’s campaign success is because of each and every business that brought their own burgers to the table. From north to south, and east to west, we celebrated Irish burgers throughout the whole country and because of you, we were able to support Simon Communities across Ireland. This year, your customers tagged their pics on social media with #nationalburgerday and now we will be donating an amazing 14,000 meals to Simon Communities around Ireland! Amazing!

National Burger Day was such a joyous day this year! It’s so sad that we have to wait until 2021 to do this again. We’d like to take a minute to give thanks to all the businesses that participated in National Burger Day 2020. We even managed to get it trending on twitter for several hours thanks to all your online and offline engagement! While National Burger Day was a little different for this year, it was still an amazing day for all. We’re already bubbling with ideas on how to take it to the next level for next year.

See you in 2021!
